TRAUMA TEDDIES 2006

Once again, in 2006, the St Paul's community of students and staff, parents and grandparents, and community members supported the Australian Red Cross Trauma Teddy program; and, once again, the response exceeded last year's collection!

A new twist this year, however, was the fact that all these teddies were handed over for badging, locally, to an active and energetic Red Cross branch in Springwood (who added the authentic Trauma Teddy label). Further ties were developed later in the year, when 50 of our teddies were presented from this group to Hawkesbury Family Support, for distribution to local families in crisis situations.

An event on the calendar in November 2006 was a morning tea which celebrated the contributions made by all our volunteer knitters and those supporting them - either by sewing, filling or relieving knitters from other tasks to encourage their ongoing creativity. Involved in this group were experienced knitters among the grandparents and parents of the school, learners who learnt their knitting skills this year, and those who continue to encourage the craftiness of their friends and family. We hope this group will grow even bigger in the years to come.

One who deserves special mention for 2006 is Justine Tomsett - a Year 10 student who has contributed to the program for the last 3 years, and increased her personal tally each year. This past year (2006), Justine made 60 teddies to donate to our efforts! Unfortunately, she has now left the school, so we will miss her contribution greatly. My guess is that she will continue in her crafty ways for some time to come, in some form or another. Thank you, Justine!
