BOOK LAUNCH AT SPGS

It has been a busy time for Director of Studies, Cameron Nunn recently, as he has endeavoured to combine his teaching and administration duties with the launch of his debut novel, 'Shadows in the Mirror'.

Following a publishers' launch at the Children's Book Council of Australia National Conference on May 4 2006, Cameron has been busy with 'author' commitments. Included in this timetable was a special school launch in the Senior School Library which attended by staff from local schools (teacher librarians and English staff), and members of the SPGS school community (including past students taught by Cameron).

Guests were welcomed by Mr John Collier, who then praised Cameron's multi-tasking abilities, and congratulated him on the successful launch and promotion of his book thus far. He gave the news that Black Dog Books (Cameron's publishers) are extremely excited by the rate at which this debut novel is selling.

Cameron then spoke about the process of getting a book published, emphasising the need for patience and a thick hide when handing work over to publishers. He indicated that his first complete manuscript for 'Shadows in the Mirror' was finished 5 years ago and that it has been a long and challenging process to get it to final publication!

Cameron also thanked the many people who supported him along the way. These people included his family, students he had worked with over the years, Helen Sykes (editor with Cambridge Education), other authors with whom he had contact over the years, and fellow staff members at St Paul's.

Owner of the Turning Page Bookshop at Springwood, Geoff Matthews, gave a glowing recommendation of 'Shadows in the Mirror' stating it was filling the gap in realistic fiction for boys.

More detail about 'Shadows in the Mirror' is available at Black Dog Books, where Teachers' Notes can also be found.
