Online Resources

These are available for use by St Paul's Grammar staff and students, many based on a paid subscription by the school. These include some sources which require password access – see library for details. See Online resources page for details.

Books

The library has a large collection of books for a great many purposes and wide range of needs. This includes an excellent and up-to-date Reference Collection. You will find that the Non-fiction collection supports the curriculum, as well as providing recreational reading. Our fiction shelves are full of interesting choices for students of all ages. The range includes the latest books from Australian authors, mixed with those of the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Many classics, old and new, are included among the titles here with a large number of current popular writers.

Daily Newspapers

We subscribe to several daily newspapers, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian and the Daily Telegraph. We have the full text of the Sydney Morning Herald from 1996 onwards on CD-ROM. This is cumulated quarterly - that is, it is up to date for the whole year every time the new CD is issued. These CD-ROMS contain a selection of articles from the year's newspapers arranged in current topics and are particularly relevant to the HSC topics, and are very easy to use.

IB Extended Essays

A selection of IB Extended Essays by past St Paul’s Grammar School students is available for use in the library. These offer good examples of the standard expected and the variety of subjects that may be studied by students. These can be found on the Athena catalogue.

Internet

The library has Internet connections available for use by staff or students. The school has a Computer policy (found in the Student Handbook) that must be signed by students and their parents/guardians before students access the Internet. The library web pages provide a guide to recommended links when using the Internet, and there are often assignment specific guides also available (Assignment Help)

Journals

The library also subscribes to many different magazines (journals). To find relevant articles in these, there are both print and CD-ROM indexes available, which enable searching by subject. Journals are available for borrowing for a weekly loan. If a journal is not available in this library, the article you need can often be obtained for you by library staff.

Journal Searching Tools/Indexes
Print indexes:

Guidelines: a subject guide for Australian Libraries (located in near the Reference shelves)
CD-ROM indexes:
Sage - produced by CSIRO and indexes journal articles relating to Science and
Geography.

Vertical Files

The Vertical File consists clippings from newspapers, sourced articles and free material arranged in alphabetically in subject order. They can be found on the online catalogue with the prefix "VF". Additional filing cabinets contain IB and HSC Past Papers, and charts and maps. Separate files exist for articles selected in the following subject areas:

Art

English Literature

History

Legal Studies

Studies of Religion

Video/DVD Collection

The library has an extensive video and DVD collection supporting all areas of the curriculum. They are available for weekly borrowing and availability can be checked on the Athena catalogue.
